Re: The Guns Network--Discussion Forums
Whatever you do don't post anything bad about the economy, bush, the dollar, the FED or Iraq over there...
Honestly you can find better information elsewhere... besides with the resident gun nuts here (myself included) there isn't much you can't have answered right here at home ;) |

OK sir, riddle me this. I am gonna get a Glock 30 and was wondering what kinda holster to get for it. I want an IWB holster and was looking at this one: http://www.kramerleather.com/product...GLOCK&model=30 Its pricey but I dont mind that, I just dont wanna shell out a bunch of money for crap. I was thinking of just putting it in my pocket but this holster looks great to me. Any thoughts?? Or is there another one I could use? I have a Glock 17 also at home and bought a FOBUS holster, a paddle one for the hip when I go out to the country and do my thing. Anyway, I have it on my hip and I pull it out that night and it left a big scrape down the side of my gun. I was LIVID. Ive had the thing for 8 years now and not a mark on it and I had to rub for a long time with oil to get it off. Needless to say the FOBUS is in the trash. I am trying to avoid the same problem with a holster for the Glock 30 model. Thanks for the help! |

I don't find IWB's comfortable, personally. Quote:
A thought on carrying marks.... I was once like you, but my carry guns are meant for just that. They aren't safe queens. If they get a bit beat up or handling marks on them, it's cool now. One option you could look at if you want very low profile and the body hugging w/o doing IWB are the bianchi belt slides. I would use one of these with my USP when i open carried or wanted better retention. about 25 bucks IIRC: http://images.outdoorinteractive.net/mgen/287448_d.jpg I've used it on a couple of different frames that are similar and the one for my USP fits my XD9 very well. By the way the proper was to spell it is gLock :tongue_ma: |

Re: The Guns Network--Discussion Forums
The G30SF should fit the same holster as the G30...only difference is the back of the grip.
If the truth be known, I don't much care for leather holsters. Besides the cost, leather can rub the finish off rather quickly, if carrying for CCW it can "squeak" when you move or bend at the waist, and leather is not exactly sweat or weather friendly...I don't recommend storing a pistol in any leather holster, because chemical salts used in tanning leathers can attract moisture. I prefer F.I.S.T.'s Ultra Thin Kydex for quiet IWB carry or even OWB...and they will make you one in any configuration you want, IWB, OWB, thumbsnap or no, eight different degrees of cant, Kydex lined leather (if you must), etc. They make it when you order it and mine took about 2 weeks...tho it looks like they are currently running longer. |

Anyone know any good forums?

Re: The Guns Network--Discussion Forums
Well, gun nuts do tend to have opinions and you will find them everywhere. I usually don't mind strong opinions as long as they based on facts and reason, and don't devolve into ad hominem attacks--fer crying out loud people!
Try to overlook obvious Bravo Sierra...and glean any useful information. http://www.thehighroad.org/index.php |
Re: The Guns Network--Discussion Forums
OK, so as a gun noob, if I were to buy a shotgun, and I wanted to shoot both slugs and buckshot...
A) Buy a smooth barrel and use rifled slugs or B) Buy a rifled barrel because buckshot wont hurt the rifle of the barrel? Serious question, as I am set to make a purchase and I have hear conflicting opinions. Anyone? |

Re: The Guns Network--Discussion Forums
Option A. Get a 12 gauge smooth bore (ie: Remington 870) with swaged choke or screw-in chokes. Generally, if you want to shoot slugs it should have Cylinder or Improved Cylinder choke to shoot well. Shooting slugs through a Modified or tighter choke may affect group size, point of impact, increase pressures, and hence felt recoil.
Rifled shotgun barrels (ie: Hastings) are designed to shoot saboted or Foster type slugs and will usually blow the pattern if you try to shoot buckshot or birdshot. You can always buy the 870 for shot loads and add a Hastings or similar rifled barrel to more accurately shoot slugs--although they will cost as much as the shotgun itself. |

Over the past year or so, things seem to have declined precipitously. The old hands that taught me so much don't post anymore, and if a new guy asks a question, experienced collectors pretty much ignore them, preferring instead to post extensive pictures of their vast collection of high-dollar milsurps for all to see. I often wonder why anyone would do that, and I would be afraid to do the same out of concern for getting robbed. A female co-worker once told me that men who publicly show off a lot are often compensating for other, more personal shortcomings, and the many of the postings on that site bring her words to mind. I've also heard and read sundry accounts about the ownership doing underhanded things to other shooters. Not sure to what extent that's true, but it's enough to keep me away from there. It's a real shame, because that was a great site once. I guess nothing lasts forever. |

I just got a Milt Sparks VM-2 in the mail yesterday. Had to wait 5 months, but it's an extremely comfortable IWB holster and belt.
